Collaborative Art-Making by the Artists of the Encyclical Painting Collective
Over the course of five sessions in July & August 2016, a series of seven paintings was created for the "ENCYCLICAL" by a core group of five artists.
Led by Curator John Daniel Teply, MFA, the group agreed upon themes for each of the canvases and then worked collaboratively on the paintings.
Once an artist took over work on a specific piece, he or she was allowed to change it however they wished, even to the point of completely painting over what had already been painted. As the pieces progressed, Teply led discussions with the group as to what worked and what didn't for each piece and then the group decided what each painting needed in order to be finished.
These images show the beginning stages of the paintings. More images will be posted soon.
This core group of artists included Sylvia Brallier, Sasha Larsen, Dan Seneres, Nigel Sussman and John Daniel Teply
